General information

The Department of Letters, Philosophy, Communication at the University of Bergamo offers research and training courses in the field of humanistic knowledge with a particular openness to other sciences: interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity, internationalisation, the ability to transfer knowledge produced in the University to the surrounding area, also thanks to a network of collaborations with other cultural and public institutions, and these are what make up the Department’s main activities.

Development of tangible and intangible cultural heritage

The Department promotes a development focused on cultural diversity while respecting the dialogue between people, languages, cultures, skills and heterogeneous practices, promoting the protection of our environmental, historical and cultural heritage.

Spreading a culture of sustainability

The Department is a laboratory for analysing the concepts of culture and sustainability, in the knowledge that both can be thought, narrated and communicated in different ways. Together with local stakeholders, the Department promotes initiatives to spread a culture of sustainability that acts as an incentive for inclusion, combating inequalities and a commitment to values and actions in the context of life: environmental, social, economic and ethical.

Development of pathways for the intellectual maturation of individuals

The Department also develops new models of thinking about teaching and enhancing humanistic knowledge through innovative technologies. That proposed is a creation of the figure of the intellectual, who we understand as having the ability to think critically, abstractly and read reality starting from the plurality of outlooks and knowledge.

The educational offer

The Department covers the entire range of humanities, offering excellent training in literature, the history of art and fashion, linguistics and philology, philosophy and history, the history of philosophy and the history of science, sociology and communication science.

The Department provides Bachelor’s and Master's degree programmes. The educational offer is characterised by its focus on interdisciplinary paths, also linked to research collaborations (Sorbonne University) and teaching with prestigious foreign universities, teaching in English and visiting professors from the University of Oxford and the Max-Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin, as well as various Erasmus+ destinations, scholarships abroad on specific programmes and internships abroad.

A wide range of complementary activities, with seminars, workshops, internships, educational trips and summer schools, allows students to deepen their preferred areas of knowledge outside of traditional teaching methods, in a dimension on a human scale and in direct dialogue with teachers.
